This is the story of my life.

From Switzerland to Canada

I'm born in Switzerland, long before the Second World War. As a matter of fact before the hungry thirties. Yes I am an old man, but in my heart I still feel quite young.

Here is the house I grew up and spent my youth.

This is the church I was baptized and went to, when I was a good little boy.

This church is over 700 years old and has a beautiful sundial on its south side. This sundial always told us the time within a half hour or so, which was close enough at that time. There was no rush and people had lots of time. Naturally on rainy days you had to listen for the bells or the chimes of the steeple clock. All those things are still kept in good working order. When ever I go there, which is about every three years I have to visit this village and have a look inside this church.

The village had a population of less than 300 and a schoolhouse with only two classrooms. For my higher education I traveled daily to the big city, at least that's what it looked like to me at that time. Later I spent some time in Geneva, where I received my schooling in Electro Technique.

In 1952 I wished to see more of this world and traveled to Canada. Most of my time has been spent in the beautiful city of Vancouver, where I spent almost twenty five years with a University, designing and building equipment for the Geotechnical Laboratory. This place grew into a world class research lab with grad students from all corners of the world carrying out research toward PH.D degrees. My name has been mentioned in acknowledgment in many technical papers and I was contacted by research labs and Universities from around the world to solve their problems in testing of soils. I have to give credit for my knowledge in the geotechnical field to a long time and very good friend Dr. Y. Vaid. Together we designed and built one of India's biggest Geotechnical labs. I spent two months in New Delhi designing and building the lab, which was a complete new experience for me. Later I was asked by the University of Osaka Japan to build one of the most complicated Mini Triaxial Cells.

My introduction to computers first came in 1968, when I took some University courses in Basic, a language which was manly used in engineering. Today many programs for soil testing equipment are still written in Basic or Q Basic. Now I'm pretty well retired from this kind of work. My hobbies are mostly outdoors oriented and I do enjoy life to the fullest. If you click any of the links below you will see the beauty of British Columbia and the life that goes with it.

What more would you like to know? Send me an E-mail and I will tell you. Yes I am married to a wonderful wife almost 45 years. We have two lovely children, a boy and a girl. Both are about as crazy as I am and I must say that most of the credit for my success goes to my wife.

Ever so often I receive E-mail, people asking to see a picture of me. Yes there is a picture of me somewhere in my Home Page. No, not from far away, and not from behind, it is a proper portrait with my real name. It is up to you to find it. Please let me know when you do and if you would like some help I will give you a clue.
